Can memory cold recall
What fear and pity
It evokes for all
Seeing tsunami
Sweeping wiping all
Within its reach
In minutes.

Who can withstand
10 meters (33 feet) waves
Towering roaring fleet
Like a great avalanche
Huge whirlpool mowing pulling
Anything away.

All we call
And hold dear
Can be no more.

Gone without a clue
Devastated on land and sea.

In calm contemplation
In retrospection
We see
Many forms graphic images
Surreal reality of life's
Fragility.

We see faces
Ignoring useless baggage
Clutter flutter
Thrown up by circumstance.

No more weighty or vital.
No better than burdensome
Temporal toys and things.

Ah,worldly things.
All vain glory
In one's transitory journey
On earth.

Japan's most powerful earthquake
Offers new lessons.

It has moved Honshu
2.4 meters (eight feet)
Closer to North America.

It has shifted
The earth on its axis
By nearly 10 centimeters.
